More than 38,000 employees ensure the daily operation, maintenance and development of nearly 1.3 million kilometers of the French electrical network. The company has 34 million customers and generates nearly 11 million "in the field" operations per year.

ERDF launched the TAMARIS, PICTREL and LINKEY projects for effective Field Force Management and maximizing operational productivity. Since late 2011, 30,600 ERDF network technicians have been equipped with the RP1000 and RP1100. They receive work order in real-time and therefore they are able to deal with emergency repairs more quickly. Their journeys are optimized by satellite navigation guidance. Thanks to accurate GPS support, their locations are visualized on the administrators’ monitor and the administrators can dispatch them more easily and efficiently. While conducting their job, they can instantly access to the necessary information such as risk level and technical drawings through seamless and secure wireless method. After their jobs are done, reporting is made wirelessly. In many cases, their job are located in challenged areas like power-line tower in the high and deep mountain. Therefore, GPS accuracy and wireless communication reliability directly affect their productivity and the RP1000 and RP1100 have demonstrated utmost performance. Since ERDF operates a large scale of mobile devices, it required easy and automatic methods for device inspection on arrival, installing application, settings, remote application and OS upgrade without requiring user intervention as well as device status monitoring . Thanks to MDM(Mobile Device Management) software “Media contact” and Gen2wave’s auto installation applications, the entire processes are automatically well controlled. ERDF project office said that RP1000 & RP1100 form factor are fit to both light and heavy duty operations, ergonomic design are well-accepted by users, 4000mAH battery performs long enough for extra-long duties, various accessories are well supported for job, and system is faster and stable. It also pointed out that RMA rate is very low and it reduced total cost of ownership significantly.

Fast retrieval of identification info using OCR reader shortens time of noting down ID information. Parking patrol is streamlined by incorporating license plate recognition technology which can be used in unattended parking lots, security control of restricted areas and traffic law. Each Gendarme can connect to police database by inserting ID card in RP1300’s IC smart card reader. Gendarme control tower recognize each police’s position in Paris by using AGPS. It provides real-time police position updates to control tower in case of emergency.

Gendarmerie Nationale launched Gen2Wave’s rugged PDA RP1300 in France. The RP1300 is rugged and professional Windows based mobile terminal which fulfils the growing needs of governments for automated, fast, reliable and seamless secure verification of various identification documents. Instead of recording personal information by hand, immediate retrieval of personal information by using OCR reader is possible with RP1300. Captured info smoothly transfers to main database system to be identified. Info is available to all Gendarme connected to database RP1300 identifies each Gendarme by reading their ID through smart IC card reader and gives location-based status updates. Battery with contact smartcard reader reads Gendarme’s ID card and identifies each Gendarme in different locations. Two SAM cards inside RP1300 are gateway to transferring this information. Safe and quick ID information transaction is possible through SAM cards. For example, when there is emergency radio call in Paris, police control tower immediately allocates Gendarme to accident scene. RP1300 improves communication between control towers and Gendarme in the field. GPS in main control tower oversee all Gendarme’s position in Paris. Control tower sends nearest Gendarme to emergency location. RP1300 is powered by connected built-in AGPS. Each Gendarme depend on RP1300 to recognize each other’s position. Quicker action against radio call became possible. RP1300 made Paris more secure with significant time saving of answering radio call. Quick extraction of driver’s information and transferring data is possible with all license plates in Paris. Gendarme takes license plate’s photo in dark parking lot with 8MP camera. Officers are automatically alerted when they scan a plate that is a match for overdue parking tickets, or driver is potential crime suspect. License recognition immediately gives record of the driver; gender, number of parking tickets, and further parking penalty for parking in restricted area. Police uploads driver’s record. Gendarme checks illegals acts of parking and sets violation fee with Traffic Laws Application. The record is registered in station and e-mailed to driver. With stable HSDPA, increased data capacity speeds up file transfer. All the process ends in a minute. Gendarme prints out parking ticket with Bluetooth connected printer.
